Lynchburg City Council Looks at Plans for New Civic Center

Lynchburg, VA - For the first time, Region 2000 Tuesday unveiled its plans for a new civic center to Lynchburg City Council.

The Executive Director outlined the specifics at a work session Tuesday Afternoon.

Some of the features could include seating capacity for 10,000 people, a permanent ice surface and locker rooms.

Bryan David says it would cost roughly $100 million to build, which would include a 50,000 square foot conference facility.

In the first year, David estimates it would generate more than $20 million dollars for the local economy.

"We are looking at trying to make this a standalone, viable quality of life asset that only contribute to the economic activity," David said.

David also discussed turning the old Sears building into a civic center. He says they'll hire a company this week to study the impact it would have on traffic in the area.
