Wildwood Park set to reopen Monday

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Wildwood Park will remain closed through the weekend because of a fuel spill caused by last week's tanker crash along Interstate 81 in Harrisburg.

Carl Dickson, director of Dauphin County Parks and Recreation, said the park will likely reopen Monday, pending a final inspection.

About 2,000 gallons of spilled diesel fuel went into a storm drain and reached Paxton Creek and Wildwood Lake after the tanker overturned and caught fire Thursday morning on the ramp from I-81 North to Route 22/322 West.

The park, which lies just northwest of the interchange, has been closed since the morning of the crash.

Most programs scheduled at Wildwood this week were relocated to Fort Hunter Park.

Humane Society of Harrisburg Area said on its Facebook page that the annual 5K Run/Walk scheduled Saturday at the park has been moved to the shelter's grounds at 7790 Grayson Road.
