Police have a suspect in custody following a standoff in Lancaster on Saturday morning at around 2:50 a.m.

Authorities reported that 33-year-old Steven Verling is behind bars after barricading himself inside a home on the 600 block of South Queen Street while armed with a handgun.

According to officers, Verling's girlfriend and three young children—ages 12, 8 and 6—were also inside the residence at the time of the standoff.

Police said he fired several shots before they arrived, and he fired more at the officers once they were at the scene. The Lancaster County SERT Team responded to the situation, and several blocks around the home were shut down. Some homes were evacuated.

After six hours, Verling eventually surrendered. No one was hurt.
