Historic Camp Hill church celebrates 215th anniversary

CAMP HILL, Pa. (WHTM) -

A church with a deep, historic past celebrated a major milestone on Sunday.

Members of the congregation held a festival at the historic Peace Church in Camp Hill to honor its 215th anniversary, and dozens of colonial and Civil War reenactors entertained the crowds.

The Peace Church was built back in 1798 as a place of worship for German farmers who had formed a congregation. The building was used until 1865, and it remained abandoned for nearly a century.

In 1969 the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission realized the church's historic potential. The church is now being preserved and protected by the commission.
