Hot Dog Sale in Roanoke to Benefit Special Olympics

Roanoke Co., VA - The Roanoke City Sheriff's Department set up a checkpoint of sorts downtown on Wednesday to raise money for a good cause.

The checkpoint was voluntary and came in the form of a hot dog stand just behind the city courthouse.

For $4, you could get two chili dogs, a drink and your choice of chips.

All the proceeds go to the Special Olympics.

"Last year, we raised $800 for the Virginia Special Olympics as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. We are part of Region 10. It went so well last year we were hoping we could even do better this year. So far it's looking pretty good," said Lt. Kimberly Haddox with the Roanoke City Sheriff's Department.

Wednesday, they were able to raise a whopping $1,240 in just two hours!!

In all, Region 10, which covers the area from Radford to Bedford, raised more than $70,000 for Special Olympics.

This year's Law Enforcement Torch Run is June 5.
