Danville, VA -- The new Danville fire station is closer to becoming a reality.
Thursday, crews started working on the site on Lynn Street. They are putting up fencing right now, and will start construction soon.
The new station is about 30,000 square feet plus has a separate building for the 911 call center.
It will have four bays for the trucks and more office space. They say they need more space for the trucks because over the years, the trucks have outgrown the space. The fire department says they are more than ready.
"We're really excited. This has been about a three year process and it's finally getting started so everybody is excited about the new station," said Ronald Harvey, the assistant fire chief.
It should take about 14 months to complete the building.
