Pizza shop owner gets saucy with burglars

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A city pizza shop owner said he just had to take action, even if in hindsight running over to a neighboring store and tripping a burglar may not have been the best move.

"It's not a good thing to do what I did but sometimes in the momentum when you see what's going on you get really p***ed off," said Dennis Bryant.

To Bryant's credit, when the incident occurred he did contact police and he was not injured. The owner of Mercado's Pizza on North 3rd Street said he just had to do something after finding out the shop's neighbor, a Boost Mobile store, was being burglarized early Sunday morning.

"We are a tight knit community around here; we look out for each other, and if we have the chance to help each other we help each other," Bryant said.

The incident was caught on camera by the store surveillance system.

Previously reported:

Harrisburg police said they arrested two men and are looking for a third person who robbed a cell phone store and then returned to burglarize the business days later.

Willie Barnes, 19, of the 400 block of Muench Street, and Tre Williams, 18, of the 1900 block Forster Street, were placed in the Dauphin County Prison after family and others revealed their identities, police said Friday.

Eighteen-year-old Jovon Hymon, no fixed address, remains at large, police said.

Investigators accuse the three of robbing the Boost Mobile store at 1001 N. 3rd Street on May 8, when one of them allegedly punched a clerk in the face before all three fled with armfuls of packaged cell phones and cash from the register.

The clerk suffered a laceration to his lip and contusions.

Authorities said the three returned to the store during the early morning of May 19 and forced their way inside.

In an incident caught on surveillance video, an employee of a neighboring pizza shop tried to stop the burglars as they exited the store with stolen items. He was able to trip one of the burglars, but the three got away, police said.

Anyone with information regarding Hymon's whereabouts may call Harrisburg police at 717-255-3182 or 717-255-3114.
