Roanoke, VA - The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is offering a workshop aimed at beginning beekeepers.
The first of two sessions is planned for May 28 at the Virginia Tech Roanoke Center. The second session will be on June 1 at the Catawba Sustainability Center.
The instructor is Mark Chorba, who many call the "bee whisperer of the Roanoke Valley."
The workshops are intended to inform those who are interested in starting their own apiaries, for pleasure or for profit.
Sponsors of the workshop say that the honeybee is the only insect that provides food for human consumption.
The fee for the workshop is $100. Registration is open through Sunday and can be completed here.
