Chatham, VA - As part of Memorial Day weekend, several people in Pittsylvania County gathered to honor our service men and women who have served our country.
American Legion Post 47 held a ceremony at the Chatham Train Depot Saturday morning.
It was the second year the American Legion Post has put on the ceremony.
The guest speaker this year was David Harker, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam. He talked about his experience there, and about the importance of remembering the true meaning of Memorial Day.
"Everybody stops and remember what the significance of memorial day is and the sacrifice that our service members have made throughout the years and we need to do that because of they're the ones that protected our freedom," said Event Organizer Ken Bowman.
