A Newport man faces charges after police say he knocked a state trooper to the ground and jumped on top of him while being taken into custody.
According to state police, 47-year-old Cameron Drum was in custody at the Newport Station for a drunk driving crash early in the morning on May 2.
Officials said Drum became agitated and physically combative toward one of the state troopers. Drum then grabbed the trooper's arm, knocked him to the ground and jumped on top of him.
Drum was restrained, and the attacked trooper suffered minor cuts and bruising from the altercation.
Drum was arraigned and placed in Perry County Prison on $25,000 bail.
