Vets honored in Memorial Day ceremony in Harrisburg

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Memorial Day ceremony in Harrisburg took place along and on the Susquehanna River this morning.

Every year since 1947, the Marine Corps League lays a wreath in the river followed by a rifle salute and the playing of taps.

The event symbolically honors Patrick Milano, the first Marine from Harrisburg to die fighting in World War II.

"It so important we honor our vets, especially those who've fallen," said state Sen. Rob Teplitz (D-15th), who attended the ceremony. "We have to make sure we don't just do that on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, but that we fight all year long for policies that benefit veterans."
