York man arrested for desecrating American flag

A York man remains behind bars after he was arrested for desecrating an American flag.

State police in Gettysburg said they found 57-year-old Robert Stephen Forrey with a defaced and torn flag in a pile of trash along Route 15 in Adams County.

Police said Forrey's vehicle appeared to be broken down and had no lights on when troopers came upon him just north of Route 116 in Straban Township on Monday night.

Troopers found trash, household goods, and furniture next to the vehicle and into the nearby woods, according to police, and in the pile of trash, they found the flag and letters with Forrey's name and address.

A pair of area veterans were not happy to hear about it.

"If I saw the guy, I would probably cuss him out," said Vietnam veteran and Gettysburg resident Kevin Torsey.

"Someone needs to educate him on flag etiquette," said Michael Geib, a disabled Gulf War veteran from the Carlisle area.

Forrey was arrested for desecration of the flag and scattering rubbish. He was taken to Adams County Jail on $1,500 bail. A preliminary hearing was set for June 12.
