LEWISBERRY, Pa. (WHTM) -

New video released to abc27 News shows a man trying to crack open an ATM machine at a York County restaurant on May 29.

Police said the footage shows 28-year-old Justin Wright of Newport, just released following a DUI arrest, walking up to an outside ATM booth at Summit Restaurant in Fairview Township while on the phone.

The video shows the man, believed to be Wright, pacing back and forth while on the phone. After nearly 30 minutes, he walks out of the booth briefly and then returns with a makeshift hammer.

He begins chipping away at the machine, eventually lifting the entire face off. A waitress inside watching called police, who arrived and arrested Wright. Detectives said he was reaching his arm inside the ATM cavity when they rolled up.

Restaurant owner Dennis Loxas described Wright as a "stupid criminal" who was clearly desperate for cash.

"It's funny that he spent so much time there, and even funnier that he took a smoke break," Loxas said.

Damage to the ATM machine is approximately $5,000, Loxas said.

Wright is in York County Prison charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
