HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission said it voted Thursday to investigate a proposed rate increase by Columbia Water Company.

The company, which serves customers in the Columbia and Mountville areas of Lancaster County, proposed an annual increase in revenues of $773,210, or 19.2 percent.

An annual bill for a typical residential customer using 48,000 gallons of water a year would increase a total of $77.64, from $367.92 to $445.56, or about 21 percent.

According to a PUC news release, the request has been suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for a recommended decision.
