DA: Truck tips sought in Hershey homicide case

HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) -

Authorities investigating the fatal stabbing of an 87-year-old woman in a Hershey area home Monday have linked a pickup truck to the case.

Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico said investigators believe the pickup was driven by an African-American man in his 20's or 30's and is connected to the murder of Joyce Roth.

Marsico issued a photograph with a news release Friday, and asked anyone who saw the truck on June 10 or June 11 to contact Derry Township police at 717-534-2202.

He added that investigators have made substantial progress in the investigation.

Roth, of Allentown, died at a hospital after she was stabbed in the chest while staying at the home of her son and daughter-in-law on Byron Road.

Authorities believe she was stabbed during a burglary, since a wallet and purses belonging to her and others were missing from the home.

Investigators have said a chef's knife from the kitchen apparently was used to stab Roth while she was in a guest bedroom.

Dauphin County Coroner Graham Hetrick said an autopsy showed no signs of a struggle, and that Roth was likely killed in a surprise attack.
