York County Treatment Court adds dog to the team

Posted: Updated:
YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

The York County Probation Department introduced its newest member to the team: Buster, a 24-month-old black Labrador Retriever.

Buster will be working with defendants in Treatment Court. York County has the second canine program in the state. Centre County was the first.

Buster is a professionally trained dog that officials hope will help those in the system relax in a high stress environment. Studies show that courthouse facility dog programs have been a success nationwide.

The cost to bring Buster on board was nearly $15,000. Taxpayers will not have to flip the bill.

Victory Athletic Association donated the money for the canine program. Shiloh Veterinary Hospital will provide care for Buster.
