Investigators: Fatal stabbing of elderly woman not random

HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) -

Authorities investigating the fatal stabbing of an 87-year-old woman in a Hershey area home last week no longer believe the crime was a random attack.

Dauphin County First Deputy District Attorney Fran Chardo spoke to abc27 News about the case Monday and said there is no danger to the public in stabbing death of Joyce Roth.

Chardo did not elaborate on why authorities no longer believe the attack was random. He said no charges have been filed in the case.

Roth, of Allentown, died at a hospital after she was stabbed during the early morning of June 10 while staying at the home of her son and daughter-in-law on Byron Road.

Investigators initially believed Roth may have been attacked during a burglary, since a wallet and purses belonging to her and others were missing from the home.

More details are expected in a news conference with District Attorney Ed Marsico Tuesday morning.
