Dauphin Co. father hoping for answers

Posted: Updated:

Joe Wissler said back on July 11, 2010 his son was attacked, from behind and struck in the head with an object. His son, Joe Wissler IV suffered brain damage and almost three years after, is still in a "lock-in" state of unconsciousness.

Joe IV, now 31 years old, needs around the clock care because of the condition. His father has been his primary caregiver at their Swatara Township home for nearly a year. A labor of love, according to Wissler.

"It's just a matter of keeping him comfortable," Wissler said.

We caught up with the father and son at home, where Wissler reminisced, remembering what his son was like before, he says, he was attacked.

"Joe was a funny joyful guy, but he had a serious side and he could also be stubborn," Wissler said.

With the anniversary of the incident fast approaching Wissler still believes his son's condition will improve.

"Joe is coming around. It takes time for him to heal but you got to give him a chance," Wissler said.

And he hopes the truth will come out.

"I hope, just not for an eye for an eye, for what happened to my son. I just hope that honesty comes out," Wissler said.

Dauphin County officials are investigating. The case is currently being reviewed by the district attorney's office.
