Playing teen alarmed neighbors with BB gun, police say

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police said they cited a Lancaster County man with disorderly conduct for alarming residents of a Manor Township apartment complex who saw him running around with a gun last month.

Nicholas Sapone, 18, was holding what appeared to be a real handgun when officers responded to the Stone Mill Station Apartments on May 28.

He was ordered to drop the weapon and was then taken into custody, and it was only then that it could be confirmed that the weapon was actually a BB gun, township police said.

Police said they later learned that Sapone had been playing with a 15-year-old from the neighborhood.

Officers spoke with the youths and their parents about the seriousness of their actions.

Police added that a serious, life-altering situation was avoided due to the training and restraint of the officers involved.
