Union deal would lift residency requirement for Harrisburg cops

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Harrisburg's police union has reached a tentative agreement with the city receiver's office that would lift a requirement for uniformed police officers to live inside the city limits.

Jason Brinker, president of Harrisburg's Fraternal Order of Police, said that under the new agreement officers would be allowed to live outside the city limits. The contract, which must now be ratified by union members, would also be extended by one year, until 2016.

The office of Harrisburg Receiver Gen. William Lynch said they applaud the union's leadership for getting a deal done and called it a monumental step forward in the city's recovery plan.
