GETTYSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Final preparations are underway for the 150th Anniversary Commemoration of the Battle of Gettysburg.

The National Park Service is providing approximately 100 additional employees during the nine-day event that begins June 29, according to spokesperson Katie Lawhon.

She said the park has been coordinating with a community committee for the last two years to make sure residents know what to expect.

"I think people are prepared," Lawhon said.

State police are urging drivers throughout the region to give themselves extra time to get in and around Gettysburg. Trooper Robert Hicks said no determination has been yet as to whether troopers will direct traffic at busy intersections.

"You're not going to get anywhere very quick down there. We're trying to make this event as enjoyable for everybody as much as it can be, but no matter what there's going to be traffic issues," he said. "So everybody just has to be patient, because we're all in this together."

An estimated 200,000 visitors are expected in Gettysburg throughout the event.

Lawhon said the best way to stay "in the know" is to follow along on Facebook: facebook.com/gettysburgnmp and on Twitter: twitter.com/gettysburgnmp using the hashtag: #gburg150.
