Senate GOP seeking votes for liquor privatization

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Senate Republicans are trying to get the 26 votes needed to pass a liquor privatization bill.

An emerging plan is similar to one that would keep the state in control of the wholesale operation and allow beer distributors to also sell wine and liquor, but would reduce the number of potential new liquor outlets.

Senator Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York) said talks have been cordial, and she is optimistic something will get done.

"Ï think we need to do something," Vance said. "I am not disputing that at all."

Senator Rob Teplitz (D-Dauphin/York) said Democrats are locked in with 23 "no" votes. He said it's unlikely anyone will change their mind.
