Legislation that would expand Pennsylvania's ban on synthetic drugs has been approved by the General Assembly and is awaiting the signature of Gov. Tom Corbett.
House Bill 1217 updates the growing list of substances that are used to manufacture designer drugs closely related to bath salts, synthetic marijuana, and others banned under Act 7 of 2011.
The bill's author, Rep. Jerry Stern (R-Blair), said illegal drug makers continue to find new synthetic compounds not on the controlled substances list to create new harmful drug cocktails.
Stern said House Bill 1217 is expected to be signed by the governor in the coming days.
