HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) -

911 service has been temporarily restored in the Derry Township area of Dauphin County.

An outage had affected the system for landline phone exchanges 533, 534, 312 and 520 for much of the day, but emergency calls in the affected area had been rerouted to Dauphin County's 911 Center late in the afternoon.

County spokeswoman Amy Richards Harinath said citizens in the affected areas may now call 911 if they have an emergency.

She said Verizon Communications is working on a permanent repair.
