Lebanon police investigate gunshots-fired incident

LEBANON, Pa. (WHTM) -

Lebanon police are investigating an incident where several gunshots were fired early Thursday in the 400 block of New Street.

Police said when they responded at around 3:30 a.m. they located shell casings in the street and witnesses who heard gunshots, but found no one injured and no damaged property.

A preliminary investigation determined the gunshots were fired into the air, but it is unknown if the shots were celebratory gunfire for the Fourth of July or criminally motivated, police said Friday.

Celebratory gunfire is a crime and those responsible would be prosecuted, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
