COLUMBIA, Pa. (WHTM) -

Columbia police have identified the driver of a van and the woman he fatally struck when he crashed in a parking lot early Sunday.

Harold Eshleman, 70, of Washington Boro, was driving a 1997 Plymouth van when he lost control and left the 600 block of Lancaster Avenue shortly after 6 a.m., police said in a news release Monday.

The van went into the parking lot and struck 66-year-old Beverly Jean Altland before crashing into a sign pole, police said.

Altland, of Columbia, and Eshleman were pronounced dead at the scene.

Eshleman's wife, 66-year-old Georgia Eshleman, was transported by ambulance to a hospital where she remained in critical condition Monday, police said.

Investigators said at this point, it is not known what caused Harold Eshleman to lose control of the van.

Police asked any witnesses to call either Detective Matt Leddy or Officer Bryan Keyser at 717-684-7735.
