Update: 3:20 p.m.:

A Roanoke judge denied Timothy Wellons' bond request Friday afternoon, citing public safety concerns.

Evidence presented in Friday's hearing shows that shortly after the crash, Timothy Wellons' blood alcohol content was between 0.34 and 0.38, more than four times the legal limit.

Also considered was the fact Wellons was combative with emergency and hospital staff - he has been charged with assaulting a nurse.

The Commonwealth also determined that Wellons was on his way to pick up his young son just before the crash.

All reasons the judge cited, saying Wellons is a public safety risk.

Wellons is charged with a variety of crimes including two counts of involuntary manslaughter.

His trial is set for October 21st.

Roanoke, VA - The man accused of driving drunk and causing that fiery crash on I-581 in Roanoke last month is set to be in court Friday afternoon.

Timothy Wellons has a bond hearing at 2:30 p.m. in Roanoke Circuit Court. He is facing multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated manslaughter.

Troopers say Wellons was drunk on June 12th when he drove erratically on 581, causing a chain reaction crash involving two tractor trailers. The drivers of both of those trucks died.
