2 puppies euthanized after being found locked inside birdcage

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -

The SPCA confirmed that two puppies were found locked inside a small birdcage along Green Street in Lancaster on Sunday.

A veterinarian with the Lancaster SPCA evaluated the puppies and determined it would more humane to euthanize them.

He said they had severe mange—along with other unspecified illnesses—and concluded they would have no quality of life.

The puppies were estimated to be about 5 weeks old.

Lancaster City cruelty officers and the SPCA are investigating this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SPCA at 717-917-6979.

The SPCA is also offering a reward to anyone able to identify the person who abandoned the pups. They said the reward is at $250 and climbing.
