Judge leads peace march in Harrisburg

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Dauphin County Judge Scott Evans grew up in Harrisburg and graduated from John Harris High School in the late 70s.

He wanted to bring awareness to violent crime in the city, so he joined the families of violent crime victims and walked through the Allison Hill area Wednesday.

Their message was that violent crime will not be stopped in the courtroom; prevention must take place in all neighborhoods.

Leanna Foster took part in the walk. She lost her son, Matthew Dyson, to a shooting in a Cameron Street parking lot in February.

Foster said it's important that adults identify troubled youth in their neighborhoods and mentor them so that they will not turn to violence to resolve their differences.

"Everyone needs to see the impact violence has on the families left behind," Foster said.

Foster said she misses the small moments she shared with her son, and she hopes other parents will not have to go through the pain of losing a loved one to violence.
