A Harrisburg man wanted for escaping from the Dauphin County Judicial and Booking Center last week has surrendered.
Corey Deon Gray, 35, turned himself in to authorities Thursday at his attorney's office, according to the district attorney's office.
Gray was in a holding cell with another man who was scheduled to be released Friday, and he apparently took that man's identification while he was sleeping and used it to make his escape, according to authorities.
He was awaiting arraignment on charges of possession of a controlled substance, flight to avoid apprehension, DUI, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, driving with a suspended license, and summary traffic violations.
For leaving the booking center, located next to the county prison in
Swatara Township, prosecutors additionally charged him with escape,
identity theft, and theft by unlawful taking.
Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico said the incident sparked some changes at the new booking center.
"Staff at the Dauphin County Judicial Center have gone over their protocols for releasing prisoners. They have instituted some new safeguards to ensure this does not happen again and are looking for further improvements down the road," Marsico said.
