HANOVER, Pa. (WHTM) -

Hanover police said they arrested a 32-year-old man for stabbing his father to death "in hopes he would go to prison."

Police were called to a home on the 100 block of Stock Street around 9:30 p.m. Thursday after a male caller informed 9-1-1 dispatchers he had murdered his father.

Police said they found Scott Schaffer on the porch of the home waiting for police.  Police said he had blood on his hands and clothing.

The victim, 62-year-old Steven Schaffer, was found dead inside the home with multiple stab wounds and a "catastrophic injury to his neck."

Police said they interviewed Schaffer and he confessed to the crime saying he wanted to go to prison.

Schaffer is charged with murder of the first and third degree.

An autopsy on Steven Schaffer was set for Friday.
