SPCA takes in abandoned, emaciated puppy

EMIGSVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

Humane officials are investigating after a starving puppy was found roaming along a York County Road.

Five-month-old "Linus" was brought in to the SPCA by a passerby who discovered him on Jerusalem Church Road in East Manchester Township last week.

"He weighed about 15 pounds when he came into us, which is about half of what he should weigh if he was of healthy weight," SPCA director Melissa Smith said. "When animals come into us that are in such a deteriorated state -- obviously neglected in some way, shape or form -- it's just so upsetting."

Linus is currently being treated for a liver issue, but the SPCA hopes to put him up for adoption in the near future.

Smith said the shelter takes in more than 4,000 stray animals each year. Of those, ten percent are abused or neglected like Linus.
