Murphy's Family Gives ABC 13 Exclusive Details in Her Disappearance

Posted:

Charlottesville, VA- A new piece of information into the disappearance of Alexis Murphy could prove to be a very helpful clue into her whereabouts.

According to family, the car Alexis was driving belongs to her father and was found close to a different family member's home.

ABC 13 was invited into Alexis' grandmother's home in Charlottesville Wednesday. She says Alexis was not in town to visit her, but says the theatre where her car was found is 20 yards from her backyard.

Alexis' grandmother asked not to go on camera, but Alexis' uncle who lives in the same home, did.

Michael Brown is Alexis Murphy's uncle. He lives at Rio Hill Apartments, just yards away from where a car driven by Alexis Murphy was found.

"It makes you feel a little wary a little concerned. With a sense of urgency, like ‘Where is she at?' Is she in our backyard, is she located in our neighborhood? It just puts everything to high alert even more than it is already," said Brown.

Brown showed ABC 13 trails that officials canvassed on Tuesday in search of the missing teen.

"I hope she's safe. I hope she's okay," Brown said.

In other parts of city, officials remained pretty tight lipped.

FBI agents were spotted in downtown pockets near Carmike six cinemas, but were not saying much.

Managers at "Kid to Kid", a resale shop, say Alexis is an employee, but would not comment if she was in town for work.

Area businesses say they recognize Alexis.

"She looks familiar," said Molly Martin with Plato's closet. "In the past couple of months she's probably come in."

Management at Carmike Six Cinemas say the car Alexis was driving showed up in their parking lot sometime after 11 a.m. Tuesday.

At Rio Hill Apartments, Alexis' uncle has a message for anyone watching.

"If she's around someone and she's not willing to be around that person, just let her go. Everybody is looking for her. We're going to find her," Brown said.

Alexis is one of three kids, she is the middle child.

She is described as a light complexion, African American female, about 5' 7", weighing 156 pounds.

Please call Nelson County officials with any information at 434-263-7050.
