A local patrolman went the extra mile to ensure a dog's safety following a crash in Palmyra.

According to South Londonderry Township Police, two dogs had run away from a vehicle after it was involved in an accident.

One of the dogs was caught, but the other—a German shepherd—took off across town.

The dog was found near the Lebanon-Dauphin county line. Officials discovered it couldn't walk, having suffered injuries to the pads on its paws during its lengthy run on the asphalt and other terrain.

Patrolman Nick Ague then carried the dog what the department called "a long way" back to the owner's vehicle.
