SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Shippensburg police have charged a Maryland man with the attempted homicide of a 21-year-old borough woman.

Joseph Russell Sine, 25, of Clinton, is accused of forcing his way inside the woman's home in the 100 block of Roxbury Road on Wednesday morning and assaulting her, according to police.

The woman was lying on the ground when officers responded to her home, and had suffered injuries which required her to be transported to a hospital, police said.

Sine fled before officers arrived, but crashed on Interstate 81 in Franklin County and was taken into custody by state police in Chambersburg. He was treated at a hospital for injuries he sustained in the crash and released, police said.

In addition to attempted homicide, Sine was charged with aggravated assault, burglary, criminal trespass, terroristic threats, stalking and simple assault.

He was placed in Cumberland County Prison without bail.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for August 19.
