Union custodial and maintenance workers in the Harrisburg School District have reversed a vote that would have resulted in the layoffs of 15 colleagues.
Members of AFSCME Local 13 on Thursday approved a contract that cuts their pay by five percent and increases their health care contributions by five percent.
The contract was approved by a vote of 89-78.
Teachers and other employees in the school district have approved similar agreements, but the custodial and maintenance workers initially voted against the contract last week.
Gene Veno, the district's chief recovery officer, had said the layoffs would be automatically rescinded if the union reversed its "no" vote.
