HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Pennsylvania prosecutors have announced theft charges against a state worker accused of stealing more than $15,000 in public funds and spending it on herself and her family.

Marylinda Freyermuth worked for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources at Bald Eagle State Forest in Union County and collected money for wood and stone permits, but investigators said she pocketed the money instead of turning it over to the state.

She is additionally accused of using a state credit card to make more than $2,600 in purchases for herself and her family, according to the state attorney general's office.

Freyermuth has been suspended from her job.
