New bridge beams set at tanker fire site

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

New beams have been set for the bridge that will replace one damaged by a huge tanker truck over Interstate 81 near Harrisburg.

A construction crew finished setting six new beams for the Route 22 eastbound bridge over the interstate early Tuesday.

The bridge was severely damaged by a huge tanker truck fire May 9.

The new bridge, which cost $3.3 million, is scheduled to be open by mid-November.

The fuel tanker overturned and burned on the ramp from Interstate 81 northbound to Route 22/322 westbound.

Work on the ramp, which was also damaged by the fire, is expected to be completed in October.
