An 18-year-old from Lancaster faces charges after he was seen with a handgun in his waistband in close proximity to children.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Green Street and Pershing Avenue at around 8:40 p.m. Saturday evening on reports of a man involved in a fight who was seen putting a handgun into the front of his pants.
He was seen by Lancaster Community Safety Coalition employees who were monitoring LCSC cameras at the time.
Upon arriving at the scene, an officer saw a man matching the LCSC's description in the 500 block of Pershing Avenue.
Authorities said the suspect sat down on the front porch of a home in close proximity to several people, including small children.
The man then removed the firearm from his waistband and tucked it under the seat cushion, directly next to a small child, according to police.
Officers approached the suspect and found him in possession of a Bersa Firestorm .380 auto handgun with a loaded magazine containing six rounds of .380 ammunition.
The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Isaiah Rodriguez of the 400 block of East Grant Street. Rodriguez, being only 18, is not allowed to have a concealed weapons permit in Pennsylvania.
Rodriguez was also found in possession of an opened bottle of rum, with a small amount of alcohol still in the bottle.
Rodriguez was charged with firearms not to be carried without a license, recklessly endangering another person, and open container.
He was committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
