Girl, 6, gets special surprise

Posted: Updated:
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Six-year-old Addilyn Endrusick was told she was going to an end of summer party in Shippensburg.

In reality, she was going to a surprise meeting with her father, a Pennsylvania National Guard soldier who just returned from a nine-month deployment to Kuwait.

It was pre-arranged that Addi would win a bike as part of a raffle. But the bike was way too big for her. So who, she was asked, might she give it to? She said her father.

And moments later, Sergeant Jeremy Endrusick entered the Cleversburg Community Center and embraced his little girl.

"This is absolutely awesome," Endrusick told us later. "I was not expecting anything like this."

This is the third tour of duty for Jeremy and for his loved ones.

"This time for her, she was old enough to know what was going on," said Addi's mom, Amber. "You don't realize how military children - they know what it costs to keep our country safe."

Jeremy and Amber were very thankful for everyone who came and for those who were motivated to organize the surprise party for Addi.

"I think it was seeing Addi, how hurt she is that her father's been gone," said Kimberly Powers about why she helped put the event together. "I see how hurt Amber is watching her daughters go through it."
