Senators fall Friday in showdown series with Erie

Posted: Updated:

Harrisburg, PA – The Senators jumped out to a 5-1 lead heading into the sixth inning, but the Erie SeaWolves stormed back with a pair of four-run innings to capture their second straight win at Metro Bank Park, 9-5.

The loss dropped the Senators to a game and a half behind Erie in the Western Division standings and just one-and-a-half games ahead of Bowie and Richmond for the second and final playoff spot.

The Senators took the lead with a run in the third, when Billy Burns singled and stole second, later coming in on an RBI single by Brian Goodwin. They added three more in the fourth, the final two on Sandy Leon's two-out single on a 1-2 pitch.

After Erie got one run back on a James McCann home run in the top of the fifth, Justin Bloxom responded with a solo shot for the Senators in the bottom half and the lead was back to a four-run cushion.

James Robbins led off the sixth with a homer off Senators starter Taylor Hill, an inning he wasn't able to make it out of. The SeaWolves took advantage of a critical Harrisburg error, Ramon Cabrera's two-run double being the big blow of the frame.

After the Senators put runners on second and third with nobody out in the eighth and didn't score, Erie blitzed Harrisburg once again for another four-spot in the ninth to seal the game.
