UAB to play two quarterbacks vs Troy

Posted: Updated:

UAB coach Garrick McGee is sticking with his plan to play two quarterbacks in the Blazers season opener against Troy.

Sophomore Austin Brown will start but McGee says junior Jonathan Perry will have a chance to run the offense as well.

"I have a plan," McGee said at Monday's press conference. "I know exactly when it's going to happen, but then after that first swing I'll go by my feel."

Perry started the first three games last season before he was replaced by Brown, who started the final nine.

Perry and Brown combined to throw for 3,706 yards and 21 touchdowns. They were also sacked 42 times, which was the most in Conference USA last season.

"It's a blessing and not a problem at all," McGee said. "They both know we're one of the teams in this country that have two quarterbacks that are capable of taking us where we want to go."

The Blazers travel to Troy to kickoff the season Saturday night at 6. The game will be seen on ESPN3.
