Police have charged 30-year-old Ummad Rushdi of York County with murder in the death of a 7-month-old Delaware County boy.
Rushdi, the boyfriend of the baby's mother, is accused of kidnapping and killing the infant, Hamza Ali, on August 4 while he and his girlfriend were visiting his parents in Delaware County.
According to a search warrant affidavit, Rushdi told his brother, Jawwad Rushdi, that he killed the child by shaking him after the baby woke up crying and would not stop.
He told his brother that the baby went unconscious and he attempted CPR, but was unable to revive him, the warrant states.
Police believe Rushdi then took the child from the home and buried him in York County.
Authorities searched wooded areas near Columbia, where the car Rushdi had used for the trip, his brother's 2000 Lincoln Continental, was found stuck in the mud. At the car a child's car seat and a shovel were recovered from the trunk, according to court documents.
Investigators said while searching the area in Columbia they found physical evidence indicating the baby was initially buried near the intersection of Route 30 and Route 441, but believe the body was later moved to another location.
Rushdi's home in Windsor Township was also searched.
Police suspended the search for the baby's body on August 12.
