A wanted felon is still at large following a chase that took police across the state border into Maryland on Tuesday morning.

According to state police, officers tried to stop a vehicle along the 2600 block of Robert Fulton Highway in Fulton Township at around 11:30 a.m.

Authorities identified a passenger in the vehicle as wanted felon Carl Sexton, 43, of Oxford, who violated his parole for a burglary conviction.

The driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old Joseph Charles Apitsch, Jr. of Maryland, fled south on Route 222 into Maryland.

The vehicle came to a stop in the 2300 block of Shuresville Road, where Sexton fled on foot into a nearby cornfield.

Maryland state troopers, along with a K-9 unit and a helicopter, aided in the search.

During this time, Darlington Elementary School was put into lockdown to prevent Sexton from possible entering the school.

State police took Apitsch and a female passenger, 27-year-old Gail Louise Olson of Maryland, into custody.

Sexton avoided capture and remains wanted. He is described as a white man, 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds, with long brown hair. He was wearing a black t-shirt and dark jeans.

Anyone with information on Sexton's whereabouts is encouraged to contact police.

Apitsch was charged with fleeing and eluding and hindering apprehension.
