Ronald Sweeney Jr., 21, of York is sentenced to 20 years in prison for a violent armed carjacking in 2011.
According to U.S. Attorney Peter Smith, on October 25, 2011 the victim was waiting in his vehicle to pick up his grandson from school. Reports say Sweeney entered the passenger side and demanded the victim give up the vehicle.
Officials say the victim instead got out of the vehicle with his keys in hand and ran down the street calling for help.
Police say Sweeney chased the victim from the vehicle and pushed him face down to the ground, grabbed the keys and shot the victim in the back before fleeing the scene.
The victim was left paralyzed from injuries sustained in the shooting.
Sweeney was indicted in June 2012 and entered a binding plea agreement in January 2013. The plea agreement said Sweeney would plead guilty to the crime and serve 20 years in jail.
