Police: Gun pulled at youth football game

Posted: Updated:

Tempers can flare during youth athletics, but recent reports that a gun was pulled out during a youth football game has plenty of parents upset.

Silver Spring Township Police say the incident happened around 5:45 Sunday evening at Stony Ridge Park.

During a game, an argument started between fans from opposing teams. The confrontation carried on after the contest. That is when police say a man went to his car, grabbed and handgun and threatened a woman.

An athletic schedule indicates that a midget football game between the Cumberland Valley Eagles and York Bears ended during that time.

Dominick Chatman, a representative with the York Bears said some adults are ruining the games for kids by making them too competitive. He hopes this incident will serve as a wake up call.

Some share that sentiment.

"Its just a football game. Its just kids having fun, out there learning a sport....lighten up, " Susan Thompson from Mechanicsburg said.

Police are investigating and told abc27 Tuesday night they are following several leads in an effort to track down the man who pulled out the gun.
