CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Duncannon man will be charged with attempted homicide and other crimes for stabbing a clerk in the neck during an armed robbery this morning at a Carlisle area gas station, police said.

Anthony G. Simmons, 27, also faces charges of aggravated assault, robbery, and criminal attempt to commit larceny, according to Middlesex Township police.

Simmons allegedly jumped the counter and demanded money before he attacked the clerk at the Gulf gas station in the 1200 block of Harrisburg Pike shortly after 10 a.m., police said.

He was unable to get the register open and fled with no money, police said.

The clerk, who was not identified, was alone in the store. He managed to get into a back room where he locked himself in and called 911.

He was transported to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for treatment of his injury. Police said the knife just missed vital arteries and organs.

Simmons was located at his home and was taken into custody without incident.

Police said they are still working to determine if he acted alone.
