HALIFAX, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Halifax Township man has been jailed for assaulting a pregnant woman and her unborn child.

State police in Lykens said 29-year-old James Robert Hale knew the woman was pregnant when he choked her with his hands until she blacked out.

Hale also kicked the 19-year-old woman in the abdomen and sides, and struck her with a closed fist while the two were at his home in the 100 block of Hale Lane, police said in a news release.

Another man who lived in the home, 62-year-old Jack Eugene Hale, then told the woman to leave and kicked her in the lower back as she was exiting the front door, police said.

Police did not disclose how the two men are related.

James Hale was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated assault of an unborn child, simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment.

He was sent to Dauphin County Prison on $25,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Sept. 24.

Jack Hale was charged with harassment.
