Meeting on Mulberry Street Bridge project

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

There are plenty of Pennsylvania bridges with plenty of problems and Tuesday night state officials held a meeting to inform the public about a project to fix a structurally deficient bridge in Harrisburg.

The meeting was held at the Derry Street United Methodist Church.

The city's Mulberry Street bridge, which spans over Cameron Street, railroad tracks and Paxton Creek is structurally deficient.

There is a $16 million project in the works that is set to start in March or April of 2014. At that time, the bridge will close to traffic and remain closed for months. It is slated for completion in December of 2015.

"It just keeps falling apart," Harrisburg's Linda Almanza said.

There will be repair work done to the deck, substructure, superstructure and pedestrian walkway.

The bridge was built back in 1909 and rehabilitated in 1957 and 1982.
