Chamber Gives Chance for Students to Be Business Owners

Blairs, VA - Middle and high schoolers on the Southside are now being given the opportunity to own their own business before they even graduate.

The Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce is launching a program called the Young Entrepreneurs Academy, or YEA!

During the seven-month long program, students come up with an idea for a business and work with local business leaders to develop a business plan. The students will launch their ideas to a panel of investors, and by the end of the class, they'll have their own business.

"We thought it would be a great opportunity for local students to really get involved and figure out how to make a job instead of relying on taking a job," said John Mathena, Young Entrepreneurs Academy Program Manager

The program will start on October 14. If you'd like to find out more information or sign up, click here.

YEA! has a program in Lynchburg as well. Learn more here.
